What’s there to understand? Both are to be played, enjoyed and experienced at full volume.

"Why am I the only fucker who thinks Symbolic is one of the bands worst. It sounds fucking tired in comparison to something like Human or even this to an extent and definitely compared to the early stuff."

Agreed in the sense that it's my least favorite of the last three albums. Symbolic is halfway between ITP and TSoP and doesn't satisfy me like neither of those two. If I want something more death metal-ish I'd rather jam ITP, whereas if I want something more focused on writing I'd rather jam TSoP.

To be fair, you could put on anything by these guys and have a blast. I can easily see people having any album by them as their favourite.

Also true, after what I've said I still consider Symbolic excellent.

The writing on Symbolic is better than anything on TSOP.

Easily, this is so clumsy in comparison.

Can't agree, I find this much more exciting and free flowing, though it does have a few abrupt transitions. Not to mention it has what's probably my favorite drumming in metal.

It’s weird, I like clumsiness occasionally, or rather I can forgive it, but I appreciate Death for being tight & unrelentingly on point, which they mostly are.

Symbolic wanks just as hard, it just has shorter songs.

Symbolic doesn’t even stroke, nor even give its tallywacker a little cursory glance.

Well, compared to this anyway. Symbolic is fairly restrained.

I don't find anything about Sacred Serenity (or any other song on Symbolic) to be "wank".

Unless we have a different definition of wank or something.

I like both albums a lot, I just find it unfair how people can adore Symbolic and then trash TSoP when they are cut from almost the same cloth, see Perennial Quest.

Speaking of the album as a whole, I don't think I can agree they are almost cut from the same cloth. There's similarities for sure, moreso with some songs than others. But liking Symbolic definitely doesn't guarantee someone will like this. Symbolic is one of my favorites, and while I love this, it's still my least favorite death. Part of it is the vocals for me though.

I don't think anyone can deny the prog influence on Symbolic but the prog influence is way heavier on TSoP. Kinda to the point that it's pretty much straight prog from start to finish. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but that can def make it harder for some people to appreciate it as much. Symbolic is a bit more concise overall and, in my opinion, has better songwriting for the most part (and better riffs).
