I like how Metallica stretches 3 minutes worth of material into these 7 minute long borefests by repeating the main riff a gazillion times and everyone acts like it's all progressive and artistic.

We're passed that and into the remasters' lack of bass, kalky. It's like a fresh page we can fill with no bass memes.

And yeah if this had acceptable production it might be my favorite Metallica album. As it stands, it's probably one of the most frustrating albums to listen to for me because it's so close to being perfect, but the production is just so goddamn distracting that I can't ignore it. Lars being so much louder than everyone is so fucking obnoxious, and all of those awesome bass lines (some of the best in their career) being hidden under everything really takes me out of the experience.

If this had MoP production it’d be a fuckin 5, and it’s already the best Metallica record imo

Agreed, except as of now I prefer RtL and MoP because those albums dont have anything that fully take me out of the experience throughout it like this one does. I know it's a tired argument, but it really does prevent me from enjoying this completely.

Maybe it prevents you from enjoying it completely BECAUSE it's a tired argument and you hear it so often. Idk I'm not a psychologist.

Could be, or it could be because I tried to learn the basslines when I was younger and I know just how exponentially better this album could have been. And also I just think Lars is one of the worst drummers in thrash metal and the fact that he drowns everyone else out drives me insane considering how good everyone else is. I dunno, I feel like I would notice this even if it wasn't a popular argument. It's a wide spread critique for a reason - it's valid.

I feel like some (not all) people don't realize how much better this album could be with a few tweaks.

Unfortunately I heard some Shortest Straw youtube vid with a rumbling bass underneath (possibly justice for jason) and it does wonders for an already awesome song.

We were many who hoped they would fix this on the remaster, but now the whining can begin anew.

yeah this one really shoulda been a "stem remaster" if such a thing were possible for an 80s album. there's definitely a "bass frequency" going on but I think it's just bottom-end of the guitars that came up with the overall low increase. Still tho I think for what it is it sounds pretty cool

it is kinda unfathomable how, when even band members have pointed it out unfavorably, they didn't take this rerelease as an opportunity to boost the bass guitar itself though
