This album makes me miss Peter Lindgren and Martin Lopez. They were both so unbelievably talented and were essential to Opeth's glory days.

axe >>> lopez
but yea axe's style fits more to the heritage/pc stuff and i think lopez was a lot more suitable for their metal stuff (which is overall what i prefer)

axe's drumming was easily one of their biggest strengths on heritage and pc but yea lopez fucking slays on gr

Axenrot's performance on Heritage is easily my favourite drum performance on any Opeth album.

His performance on the new album is great too, to be honest.

yeah he's pretty great on both but sometimes its as if he's doing his own thing. lopez really added to the overall atmosphere with his drumming.

"lopez really added to the overall atmosphere with his drumming."
Which is why i loved his work with Opeth. In my opinion he did a fantastic job of nailing the atmosphere on MAYH and beyond. Maybe he isn't the most technical drummer in the world, but I love his style and the atmosphere he was able to create. Also, it was the first time I ever heard drumming like that in metal so it left a huge impact on me.

Completely irrelevant with the topic but I wanted to make a comment on it without making a list. So, I just realized I've been writing ''review'' ''revew'' the whole time... It's seems like a long time since I've practiced my english. FML.

I've always preferred Lopez. His jazzier drumming on albums like Damnation isn't as flashy as Axe's, but they're much more smooth and chilled out. Both drummers are great for many of the same reasons though.

I appreciate the work of both drummers too.

Axe has only really blown me away on one album (Heritage) but that one performance is easily better than any performance by Lopez to my ears. I prefer his looser jazzy style.
I liked Axe on PC too but need to give that album more listens, still only listened to it twice. His drumming was still pretty much the highlight for me though after those two listens.
