Yeah, I mean this has various highlights and climaxes, but the whole thing has an ambient quality to it that keeps me in a good mood.

And Mixing. I guess they're both equally important. Idk, I'm not a profesh. Whatever it is, I love the sound.

If you think that tool made this album thinking of the division bell and a momentary lapse of reason, the album makes total sense.

It sounds just like 2000s tool production but cleaned up just enough to neuter it. So it doesnt help the feelings of deja vu about some of the better moments of the album where I just end up wanting to listen to the older songs that the new ones remind me of.

I do not like overly polished production in virtually any area of rock/metal, especially the latter

Each their own, man. I think it suits the album perfectly. It's like laying on a warm, soft, sandy beach with the cool, crisp air blowing over. It just works well with their tamer songwriting.

I'm sure it does. But wheres the bite to production like that? Metal in general is bombastic and exaggerative, it appeals to me when the production fits that notion sonically.

This album is definitely way better than I had expected. I always though tool were a good band but was not as impressed as most people were. Not that I was not impressed, but the Tool fans tend to be a little over the top. But this album is just clean crsip chugging and I absolutely love it. At first listen I felt it a little more of the same. Sure it sounds like Tool but it just gave me an uninspired feeling. However, after a good week of repeating I have to admit I love it. When I drive ik my car and Invincible hits that ultimate grove at about the 10 minute mark. Simply fantastic. This album is very good. Yeah I think this my favorite tool album to date.

Metal has never been heady to me. And it becomes cringe when it tries to be. The best has always been more visceral. Armchair production might compliment cerebral music, but not so much physical music.

Totally agree with Cosmic, there isn't supposed to be any bite, really. It's supposed to be a more chill album. The occasional heavy parts sound good, and I don't like overly clean production for rock either, but it works here imo.

Doesn't sound like they're trying to bite as hard anymore. They may not feel they have too.
