This is nowhere near as harsh and dissonant as I've seen some make it out to be
Like it so far! Letting time decide where this falls

With all the exposure this band has gotten recently it's undeniable that it's been widely listened to and talked about by those less seasoned with noise rock and metal that might think this is the craziest and most dissonant album they've ever heard.

yea agreed with rabbit season
this really doesnt feel super intense or dark to me. it is good tho
|
| |
i felt this pitched for darkness so hard that it ended up pretty lackluster (to which end Less Sex comes off better than most - gud track). due a relisten soon

This isn't as harsh as say grindcore or some shit, but in terms of music in general it's pretty noisy and dark sounding

"Lol I definitely wasn't serious about the priorities bit, just for clarity. I'll love to see these guys live just as soon as I can. So they have a lot of infighting?"
Last time I saw them live, guitarist Nick Sadler shook his head in disapproval a few times when Lex was walking through the crowd doing some Lex-shit

It's far from the most abrasive shit ever, but it's still very noisy and very dark. It's just definitely more cohesive than most noisy bands tend to be in terms of songwriting. The atmosphere is almost heavier than the sound, even though I think there are some downright brutal moments on this. Just not the same kind of brutal you get from Ulcerate or Dragged Into Sunlight or Portal or Gnaw Their Tongues or some shit. It's not in that lane. I even get sort of modernist rock, Glenn Branca vibes from this. All the harsh chords and angular, syncopated rhythms create a different heavy.
I mean, I don't see how you could think of City Song as anything less than pulverizing, despite it being industrial with no screaming.

Finally went to check out that Swans album you recommended Porcupine, only to see they merged it with another album to make it over 2 hours long?? Wtf. First you rec me that Porcupine Tree album where they mash all the songs together, and now they’re just straight up mashing albums together smh
Imma listen tho

Shoutout to whoever decided a 71 minute album needed to be made longer
|
| |
Lol yeah, Swans did a lot of that. Gira’s a tinkerer.
Later he just decided to start making all the albums 2 hours long so he didn’t after to shoehorn it anymore

They just put their 2002 EP on streaming services. I’ll have to check it later today

It’s basically what you’d expect from pre Canada Songs Daughters. Little better, though. Flattery’s a cool as Hell cut

idle rec, but I recommended Pure Adult's self titled EP to doofdoof (RIP) and he said it sounded like "a mix between daughters and parquet courts". I can see it, especially "casual animal". I underrated this album, maybe out of Kacey Musgraves-related spite/contrarianism. pretty good band, not exactly my "speed" but definitely good. liked the self-titled Daughters album a lot
