Perhaps, but i just think it's mediocre

I love Heritage, but I think I will love Pale Communion more. I will continue jamming that.

this album will turn a lot of heads. i think its going to garner them a lot of new fans
|

similarly to how GR did
|

Most of it doesn't even sound like the Opeth style, so i'm with you on that

I know, but know I have the chance of submitting it without ten other reviews already there... Otherwise there wouldn't be anything left to be said, quite honestly.
As for how well-written it's going to be, I hope it satisfies as many users as possible. From what I see, there's not going to be great distance between opinions... I don't mind posting the first one, but I'd like to be in the first 5.

a couple of days ago i read on some guys blog thing that he reviewed it already for a magazine . he said he never "got" opeth before until pc, and now he is a believer. i imagine a lot of people might might feel the same way

It's leaked so early, so I can bet you that people are going to be writing this long in advance and the site will be flooded with reviews when this is properly released

That seems very likely.

I've got a friend who only likes Damnation, so I agree with you that this will definitely bring different fans in. I can't help but think that the more ignorant Opeth fans will lose hope of another DM album and continue to slate them, but good riddance that Opeth are weeding them out

Might check the new one today, Heritage is underrated imo

Definitely, make sure to give Pale Communion a couple listens if you get the chance.

I encourage change, even if it doesn't work in the end. It shows promising signs altogether and an exciting new direction.

When I first got into Opeth, I was really not into DM, so the only ones I liked were Damnation and Heritage, and I slowly got into their more DM stuff. Still Life is now my favorite, but on Watershed his growls were a little less, I don't know, powerful. And anyways, I'd say I still prefer his cleans. So, I'd rather love a non-DM album in a style in which they're inspired than a DM album that sounds forced and uninspired

mm couldn't agree more. My dad always played Opeth and I hated it, but last year I was kinda ready to explore into heavier and more visceral music and used Opeth as a transition band.

I had trouble getting into their sound. Gave BWP some time and suddenly loved it like mad. Then I tried their other records and now it's one of my favourite bands.

Still blown away by how much better the new one is than this.

Likewise. I used to tell my sister that they had some great moments, but I hated the growls. Oh how things have changed

I see Pale Communion as another very good record by them, really.

Haven't listened to it yet, but I'm sure Opeth will deliver just fine
