i don't disagree

maybe they realised that and decided to call it quits rather than keep going in that direction. which would be respectable if somewhat disappointing

They didn't base their decision to quit on the fact that fucking sputnik didn't like their album come on man lmao

i don't understand the implication that sputnik is the only site i go to for music discussion and reviews. if that is the case for you, i would urge you to reconsider, there's nothing to lose from a greater breadth of sources and information

It's the only site that has a generally negative opinion on this that I've seen, as previously mentioned by others just above here.

Come on man

but note there's a difference between "this album is getting shit on" and "hey our fans think it's pretty good but not on the same level"

just because haughm came out and gave a reason why they broke up doesn't mean that thats gospel.

don anderson released a statement saying he didn't want to end the band

Haughm has been off doing his solo drone stuff for a while now though so saying he's lost the motivation to do Agalloch sounds plausible enough

right, and its likely not the only reason, but it makes sense. he said he started losing inspiration around two years ago. it could explain why Serpent is the way it is (it sounds uninspired to me). and hes known to be very eclectic in his music taste. i think hes one of those musicians who really needs a challenge and doesnt want to do the same shit over and over again. also, he doesnt seem like the type of person to continue with a music project if his heart isnt in it. i think "loss of inspiration" is a very plausible explanation.

i could definitely see that being the case.

Only actually heard one song but it was good, although nowhere near Agalloch level. Been meaning to check more though.
