Black Cloud has one of the best drum parts ever put to tape. That song goes apeshit.

The og is king. The grimy production works so well for their sound and I think this is the perfect gap between old Converge and new. It's just raw enough to sound old school but still packs the punch that later records would be known for. Plus I dig Bannon's vocals on this more than any of their other stuff.

Black Cloud, Drop Out, and the t/t are so damn heavy lol

That tapping riff at the end of Drop Out is purely unfuckwithable.

Drop Out has more going on in 2.5 mins than most metalcore records can even hope to achieve

Literally perfect

Drop Out goes crazy, though you can barely hear him say “drop out” on the redux.

Idk if I’d go that far but I find it interesting that people tend to have very strong opinions on the whole original vs redux debate

Personally I think the redux is better in almost every way, but there are a couple of parts where it feels like the record loses a little bit of its personality. I just think it’s so much more polished and the bass doesn’t sound nearly as muddy. It’s probably my favorite converge record and easily one of Nate’s best performances. The basslines on Heartless in particular are just fucking amazing

Yeah I’m fully in the redux camp, but the meat and bones make this record so special, not the mix

Yeah I think the redux is a pretty marked improvement on the production side. No real reason for me to select the OG if I have the redux readily available

To me, even by the band’s usual standard at the time, YFM still sounded messy. Jane sounded much clearer imo and this just sounded like a mess, and then No Heroes and Axe to Fall came thru sounding very polished. But like Jash said, there is an incredible record here, it just sounds so sloppy.. And not in a good way. The redux is easily better imo
