Band continues to be extraordinarily entertaining

Well that's one way to put it.

It’s got the same problems We Love You had… there’s a lot to like about it, but the transitions are so goddamn jarring.

The transitions in We Love You were okay to me, but in this new one I couldn't even figure them out because the production makes it sound like the same noise repeated over and over again. It's not a song, it's a mix testing site.

yeah, this new song is not good

because the song is for a game, to me the production feels like it was intentially made to have this 16-bit feel to it, but the execution just doesnt do it for me. i agree with most of what wildcard said, compositionally there's some good ideas behind the song, but for me the track falls flat overall

New song has cool stuff in it but yeah the production is unbearable.

My guess would be that it's intentional since it's for a video game and supposed to be somewhat "retro" sounding but it just sounds so bad lol

You know what, even the "retro vibe" argument makes no sense. It would if it was some other type of game, a pixelated platformer for instance, but it's fucking CoD. Which is even more absurd given that their previous CoD songs are normally sounding and, dare I say, somewhat epic metal tunes.

Ya whatever fuck it, didn’t realize it was a song for COD.
That makes me feel better about it being not that good

And yes Not Ready to Die is straight up one of their best songs so I don’t think they argument holds much wager either

i actually kinda like it lmao, production aside
not ready to die is obv one of their best songs [2], but the other two they did are maybe the least inspired songs they ever released.

Carry On gets a pass from me, it’s real meta, it works in the context of being a dumb cod song but also the band “Carrying On” in the wake of Jimmy’s death, at a time where the bands future was very much in question. I remember reading that they had a lot of talks about ending things after Nightmare, so to me that song really felt like a “we took a hit, but we’re not going anywhere.” kinda thing
At least that’s my read on it

I guess I'm enjoying how weird the new song is. I was never into A7X before Life is but a dream, so I guess it's more of what drew me to them.
Don't give two shits about cod, so none of that context matters at all to me.
"Band continues to be extraordinarily entertaining" [2], basically.

Like I said, I think it’s pretty good too but man the transitions are so fucking whack. Like, smack dab in the middle of the track it just stops… and that’s the transition? They really couldn’t have thought of something a little more clever than literally just stopping the song?

It's got some brutal shit around the 2:30 mark

It’s growing on me lmao
Not one of my favorites but as far as the cod songs go:
Not Ready to Die (prob a top 5 song oat for them tbh)
This
Carry On
Mad Hatter
Even if it feels like the experimentation doesn’t land for a lot of folks, it’s still cool they’re doing this. Not Ready to Die sounds like the perfect love child of Nightmare and Waking the Fallen, Magic would fit right in on this album, Carry On is a pretty straightforward banger but it still kinda rips, and Mad Hatter sounds like some 90’s alt shit. These guys stay changing up their sound and im here for it.

This new song might have the funniest vocal performance yet from them. M Shadows is a true showman.

I really think they hate WB and all the COD shit they’re doing. It seemed like they used to be a lot more stoked about being apart of the franchise, but god the horse has been beyond beaten to death and these guys are all in their 40s. I imagine they truly don’t give a fuck.
I don’t like it anywhere near as much as most of this but I jammed it a few times today… imaging if you could show some hot topic scene kid in 03 what A7X is doing 20 years later lmao

I wonder if they just came out with Life Is But A Dream as their first album and Magic later, what people would think about them. Like would yall see them as some up and coming underrated Avantgarde metal band?
