it's easily their most metal album, with the frequent guitar solos and members from metal band's that contributed to the songs. hence why it's frequently hailed as their best from metal heads (wizard, crysis thespirit all seem to think that)
the rest of their lps are much more hardcore influenced (tho still pretty metal obv) and thusly appeal more to that crowd.

well firstly 3 guys don't make a whole crowd even if they're hardest of hard hard hard hard asses metuhlhedz or whatever
second i kinda see what you mean, but around 90% of the guest performers on here are from metalcore bands. and the solo
thing... i dunno what to say to that, but yea
I will say though... this is their most "doom/sludge" inspired record (Worms Will Feed, Damages, Wretched World etc etc), so I
guess I see what you mean from THAT point of view

i was just using them as examples. this is definitely the most "metal" converge has been and although it's obviously still very core dominated the metal influence is much more apparent than on say jane doe or yfm. hell, i'm pretty sure Decibel (a very metal-biased magazine) said it was Converge's best lp to date... don't quote me on that tho
it just has a more uplifting and FUCK YA!! feel than any of their records, a feel you get from heavy metal. no angsty sadness like on their other records if you get what i mean
