Ha Old Mcandless supertramp was exactly that though lambs. So self absorbed he threw it all away on his own delusions of grandeur.

what a pessimistic way of looking at someone who donated 5 figures to charity so he could go live a humble life in the woods to get to better know himself spiritually. He never asked to have any of his journal published like it was.

I can't knock the charity donation but it means fuck all when he gave the two fingers to his family who obviously loved and cared for him. Again it was just him flexing his belief that financial security meant nothing.

The fella should have got his end away and realised that in order to become "one with the natural order " you do it through mutual love and respect of one another not yourself.

"I can't knock the charity donation

but

it means fuck all"

LOL

Anyway, thats a lot of speculation on your part posing as facts. But as I remember he ran away partly because he found his parents were cheating on each other. I doubt you are in a position to judge if that was the morally right or wrong thing to do.

He clearly understood the importance of financial security, or he would have just blown the money on himself and not donated it to people in need of financial security.

"in order to become "one with the natural order " you do it through mutual love and respect of one another not yourself."

really deep coming from someone dissing a dude's perceived purpose in life from the grave after reading a 200 page book and/or watching a 90 min movie about them.

idk im the last person who should be criticizing literature cause i barely ever read books (shame on me) but it felt pretty unfocused and hard to follow for a lot of it. maybe that was the point since its written from the first person and its supposed to seem delirious, but i just found it awkward to read a lot of the time.

also the author even admits the movie's superior, so there's that

I dont even know what a byronic hero is but no he wasn't a hero but he also wasn't a scrub that the movie made him out to be.

I'm pretty sure he had a sister who loved him.

Blowing the money on himself would have been a contradiction of what he wanted to achieve wouldn't it?

Fuck knows what the blokes purpose was I've only gleaned it from the book and the accounts of those who actually met Supertramp on his journey who said he was incredibly driven on a personal level.

Sitting in that bus throwing his ring up I'm pretty sure, like us all he held regrets. R.I.P
