Reddit has the decency to expect its users of subreddits to direct link to content. A site like 9gag or iFunny just slap its watermark on everything users upload or even have bots that steal from the highest rated posts of a site like Reddit. At that point they profit 100% from potentially stolen work while on Reddit, you at least get the source for the content.
