in other fields like science, yeah trust the scientists, but in a medium as subjective as music it's better to come to your own conclusion and not just go by what the ranked lists tell u. it should fine to put south of heaven or seasons above this, it should be fine to like just for a day more than souvlaki, it shows you're your own person and not a total NPC if you have a few weird/unpopular takes in your bag

that is fine, most people recognize that. it's way more weird to think that loving classic albums makes me an npc lmao

I like Seasons more than this but also enjoy both for different reasons

Album Rating: 3.0
I mean I’m genuinely not trolling this album is overrated as fuck lmao
Let’s all move to the south of Heaven thread

@futures: True. I get that. Maybe I’m a little bit like that, lol… well, this has been alluded to many times here but in reality I’m just.. odd? Idk. Then again I also don’t understand the other side of the coin, where just because something has received almost universal praise in the past, it’s beyond criticism.
I think the key is being respectful. There’s a difference between recognising something’s greatness in the context of music history and / or understanding why others may appreciate it and just slating it mercilessly due to contrarianism or in-built bias (and bias is everywhere, no-one is immune)

OK maybe it's not the BEST thrash album, but definitely top 3.

haha funny that Slowdive was used as an example because I love Souvlaki but Pygmalion is actually my favourite
…at least I’m not an “NPC” 😂

i definitely agree demon. nothing wrong with that at all. i don't think anything is beyond criticism, just most of the time when people take shots at classics it reeks on contrarianism or the need to be a special snowflake lol

if liking master of puppets, rust in peace, reign in blood, paranoid, etc makes me an npc so be it lol

NPC is becoming one of those terms losing meaning cuz of the internet tbh

Fair to say that none of wildcard's 5s would exist if it wasn't for this album.

Album Rating: 3.5
yeah fair enough, the internet turned it into some political thing but I just use it for people who don't go beyond what the 'best of all time' sites tell 'em. I'll agree on Rust in Peace, I have like 3 Metallica albums above Puppets but it has earned its stripes, Reign is honestly fine just very not to my preference (as slayer in general has always struggled to click a bit), Paranoid is a fine choice although I'd mention a couple other Sabbath albums first. one can like a classic but still find another album right next to it criminally overlooked/underrated is how i see that really

and paranoid isn't even my fav sabbath it's sabbath bloody sabbath so whew i beat the npc allegations :^)

mine's definitely the debut. Opening is genuinely haunting. Vol 4 deserves a lot of love too

“if liking master of puppets, rust in peace, reign in blood, paranoid, etc makes me an npc so be it lol”
for the record I like every one of these albums, yet wouldn’t lavish unreserved praise upon any of them. 3.5 literally means ‘great’, supposedly - yet try commenting in a classic’s thread with this rating and you’d think it was a declaration of war sometimes, lol

yeah a lot of people think 3.5 means like ok for some reason lol. 3.5 has always meant a solid worthwhile album to me so no issue here.

“OK maybe it's not the BEST thrash album, but definitely top 3.”
I don’t wanna be a hater but Metallica literally has three thrash albums better than this, and tbh megadeth does too lmao

This is easily better than anything by Metallica.

Totally agree that the 3.5 gets misunderstood the most
