think he's approaching it from a more noise purist vantage point. the bands you named ars are shallower on the 'noise' side of the spectrum and deeper on the 'rock/punk' side

Sach, every band you named as true noise rock came out in the 90s/2000s even though the term noise rock has been around since like 1980

brainbombs is just the angels (AUS), with a more overtly misogynistic guy that sounds like he has a perpetual cold up-front, recorded on 4-track

That's an incredibly reductive way to look at music.

noise rock started in the 70s with the new blockaders tbh
and you could argue its origins date even earlier to pockets of AMMs early work

"and you could argue its origins date"

he never said it was noise rock

a good deal of genres are inspired and take from entirely unrelated genres and sounds

how is it reductive? if you have a threshold whereby you deem something as being 'x' only by having a certain amount of influence or incorporation of 'y' you aren't being reductive you are being selective about how you qualify something.

if you think free improvisation is a genre and not just an adjective to denote "almost entirely unstructured" you got cum on your cerebellum

Every source for AMM calls them noise, jazz, and free improv

Noise by itself isn't noise rock ....
