Kendrick's new album was supposedly gonna drop around March last year. It is most definitely finished. Seems like he/tde are waiting for the pandemic to end so Kendrick can go on the normal music-industry-titan marketing tour.

In a weird way, I almost think DAMN. is the best album from a songwriting perspective. It's worse than GKMC and TPAB in basically any other metric... but I don't think those collections of songs were as polished, focused, or "perfect" as they are here. Some might say the songs on this album are safe and neutered, but it speaks volumes that like 1/3 of the songs here were un-adultered smash hits on a global scale. You don't get that kind of universal acclaim, both critically and commercially, if those songs aren't top of the line.

tbh all that proves is that the average person has shit taste in music

FEAR is cool, but it’s too long imo. Like it was trying too hard to be this album’s “Sing About Me”

When something is as objectively successful in basically every single possible metric as DAMN. (or other albums of the past that reached the same point in pop culture at a given point in time) was, I believe those songs (or the at least the main ones propping the album up to that point) are objectively perfect in some way, even if I don't think of them that way on a personal enjoyment level.
Artists at Kendrick's place in the industry attempt, with all the same resources as him, attempt to do what DAMN. did all the time, and have very rarely succeeded to the extent Kendrick did. Humble and Love are practically unlistenable to me these days, but there is something inarguable about those songs that worked and helped make them so inescapable

Yeah, they're catchy. That's it.

music can't be objectively perfect, that's an oxymoron. plenty of highly regarded albums are dogshit - look at guns n roses appetite for destruction
