"That album felt much too poppy for me. Haight Street is a solid jam though."
I can see that, but I think New Surrender has some of the best singles. Disappear, Resistance, Feel Good Drag. And Haight Street is under appreciated.

New Surrender is better imo. "Soft Skeletons", "Retrace" and "Younglife" in addition to your picks.

It drives me absolutely fucking nuts that he says 'conversate' in "Alexithyma". "Godspeed", "There Is No Mathematics", "Hello Alone", Dismantle. Repair" and "fin" are the the best here imo. "Adelaide" and pretty much every song I didn't mention is kinda filler imo

^Your avatar looks like a character from Hollow Knight (which I'm currently playing and getting my ass handed to me by)

It is indeed. Nightmare King is his name, and if you're getting your ass handed to you atm, wait until you fight him. Took me about 35 attempts but now I can reliably beat him without taking damage.

Oh hey, nice to see Hollow Knight love. Game is certainly a gem and the devs are awesome

Yeah game is a masterpiece, probably the best metroidvania I've ever played. Nightmare King is a top 20 greatest boss of all time

I'm currently on the Soul Master and can't even get to the second part of the fight =[
I thought I was good at games until I played this.

Eh, it's just trial and error. You typically need to die to a boss a few to several times to learn their patterns

lol Conversate bugged the hell out of me too
Also I gotta say I don't think I've listened to an Anberlin song in a year
In fairness I haven't really listened to anything I used to listen to on this website in ages

Fuck that, a 5's gonna stay a 5 for me. If an album was that important to me at some point I ain't gonna let my current impression sway it should it be different.

Yeah this is still definitely a 5. I don't listen to this band as much as I used to either but this one's still a classic.

I just recently listened to all of 'Devotion' (had only heard 'Vitals'). Band may not be top 10, but definitely still upper-tier for me.

@Storm, yeah if I cared in any capacity about ratings this probably wouldn't be a 5 beyond the fact that it was pretty formative for me.
I can't exactly pin down what it is about the band that makes me kind of meh about them. I think part of it is they are very harmonically safe (e.g. repeating four chord songs). That's OK if the melody great, but Anberlin's melodies are generally just pretty good. (*fin) might be an exception.
Then something about the production really bugs me about the band. Everything is just so clean. Like if music had texture, Anberlin's music would be unnaturally smooth. Again, the outro to (*fin) feels a little bit more stripped down and intimate and it's probably the best part of the entire album.
Ah well.

Definitely not a 5 anymore but I treat the rating like an exclusive club and it's like once you're a member you kind of just retain the honor forever
