"not denying that theyve been influential, but "defiinitely the first" is a huge overstatement and not true at all... textures, fellsilent, sikth were doing the djent-metalcore thing years before the first periphery album"

Totally, I was oversimplifying. No sound comes from nowhere. However I think Periphery really defined the sound & inspired imitators in a way that those other bands didn't, as others said.

I think they're definitely one of the most consistently good bands in the genre for sure. Infinitely more consistent than Born of Osiris

hmmm i like periphery more at their best but idk, boo were pretty solidly a 4.0 tier band before their last album, where periphery have like three duds

I don't think Periphery have any duds, but P1, 2, and 4 go silly. I really like 2 and 5 as well. Alpha and Omega feel like their own thing, but again, I dig everything they've done.

I can understand not being into the vibe, but saying they're shit is wild to me.

The band's only great album. Everything else has its moments but this was great.

“August Burns Red, this band and Periphery are the father, son, Holy Spirit of ushering in the overproduced non-hc influenced metalcore era”

What in God’s holy name did ABR do to you

ABR did nothing to me and I like some of their music, but too many shiny metalcore bands followed in their success. A tragic ripple effect that led to sterile sounding core bands for many years

Yeah the ABR “flavor” doesn’t bother me at all cause to me it still has roots in early core. The other two spawned miserable stuff lol
