Ok 90% is a bit high but it's probably at least 50%

In general though I'm inclined to believe that the general consensus on albums is accurate, I figure that if it's in the ballpark of things I like then the judgments of people who like things similar to what I like is probably accurate.

Who cares about general consensus and accuracy though? It should be whether the individual likes it

Sure it can be a predictor, but ultimatrly it's a weaker prediction than people like to think

Sometimes I read reviews after I've listened to it once, but I try o ignore all reviews before the first listen
Especially if it's an adored album that I end up disliking because I don't want to force myself to like something just because the critics like it

This is what is so lame about music elitism. It's more about other people knowing how great your taste is than it is shaping your taste to fit what you enjoy

Album Rating: 4.5
I don't usually read (professional) reviews until after I've listened to the album but I am usually aware of the general consensus on a given album before I listen to it

Like I just don't like Loveless or Ladies and Gentlemen and no critic or peer pressure is going to change that

Album Rating: 4.5
I mean at the end of the day my ratings do reflect my actual enjoyment of the album in question I'm just saying that it's pretty rare that I end up liking an album significantly more or less than I expect to.

That's okay, although personally uninteresting
I appreciate unpopular opinions more often because they're more fun to discuss

Album Rating: 4.5
I think I just know my own taste too well.
I'm also a pretty generous scorer, it's pretty rare that I end up actively disliking something I listen to since I mostly check out albums I think I'm going to like.
Personally I think individuality is kind of overrated, again in general I think the general populace of people who like what I like is right so why not go through the stuff they think is good instead of scouring through all the unknown/obscure stuff

Album Rating: 5.0
I’ve had a few people say my ratings don’t make sense because I don’t like every album in the same genre or by the same band.
I have very little loyalty to genres/artists - if an album derps it derps

Shaping taste I guess means trying things outside of your comfort zone because you think you'll like if you give it a chance
Expanding your horizons, but being willing to reject that thing outside of your comfort zone if it ultimately doesn't click
Cut and paste idk use your imagination
