Agree guitars sound a bit buried a lot of the time.

Yeah the fact that the mix here is my main complaint is quite the compliment to the band after such a loss. It's also sad for me, cause I would really like a remix/remaster. Really miss the energy from the guitars and it can get quite distorted in places, the master volume is a bit all over the place and sometimes too obviously hits the limiters... But in places it sounds also really good all of a sudden (Moth and Bone)?

wtf are you smoking thinking this is amazing production lol

The weirdest thing is, is that in places this sounds really good, as mentioned earlier. Three Fates and Moth and Bone both sound stellar but other songs really sound too mid heavy and clippy in places

EDIT:

Okay I might be getting smoked by Tidal just having a fucked upload. They have two versions online and it seems that one sounds a lot better than the other lol. Not gonna relisten now but will found out once if that was indeed the case. Might explain why some songs sounded better than others.

never judge production work via online streams, rather judge only if you purchase a physical copy ;)

Production is fine, at least a million times better than H&G. It's Kurt Ballou after all. Tough maybe this would sound meatier and heavier if it was produced by Matt Bayles like the first three albums.

Only recording was done with Kurt, mixing and mastering respectively done by Andrew Scheps and Ted Jensen. With Kurt I'm sure the guitars would've sounded meatier haha

@rockandmetaljunkie fair remark, but sadly I do not have infinite money to throw around buying physical releases for everything I want to check haha. Would be cool as hell though. Also I have no space in my house for that

For some reason there is a version where the first track is 24bit 48kHz, and then the rest is 16bit 44.1kHz, and there's also a version where everything is 24bit 48kHz. Listened to the first one, and I suppose that one sounds different. Could be it was uploaded recently, Tidal is sadly very whacky with all the versions, deleting content, reuploading content, whatever. Super annoying especially when maintaining playlists...

Tidals 'hifi' versions used to be compressed to hell. Sounding way worse than standard lossless. Haven't used it in years though because they made other versions unavailable

That's completely understandable, man. I didn't mean it as criticism at all.
