Souls At Zero is so underrated. Gotta love the use of violins and additional instrumentation In that album, Neurosis at their most creative moment.

"i love how it's 2026 and 5 of the top trending albums are by lamb of god, poison the well, neurosis, rob zombie and converge"
if private music had come out a few months later we’d have Deftones on it too lol, we stan our geriatric trending bands.

IKR, they are like quintessential Sputcore.

I'm gonna do a full Neurosis discog run here. I've jammed this one like 25-30 times now so its time to make a full run. Good lord, what a band.

Similar to Converge, I struggled to get into this band. Not sure if this is the album to try again, but I'll give their discography another spin.

Intriguing record with a number of stirring passages, but also a few moments where I think they fail to fully find the balance between motivic minimalism and compositional dynamism (that is to say, moments that feel a bit dull, overly repetitive and overly stuck in vacuous ambiance in the absence of a more refined approach to motivic development, instrumental layering and dynamics). Superior to their two previous releases, though it does not match, at least upon first listen, the quality of their most renowned works, including Given To The Rising. Still, though, pleasant suprise to see, in my view, the best post-metal band returning with such a fine release (with the second best post-metal band's vocalist added to the line up).
P.S. mere first impression, subject to significant revision.
