Agreed, this band is so much better when they embrace their melodic bag and it helps they don't rely on production tricks

This is their best record. And it’s also probably tied with Empty Black. So there I solved it for you all

Did a discography run to confirm, yeah this is my favorite. As much as I love their other stuff I do generally need to be in a specific listening mood for it. This is just so wildly catchy and "accessible" all the way through that I can see myself jamming it any time.

This is good but not doing anything for me. I vastly prefer Empty Black and TBABW. Wish I could join in on the fun with everyone else here. :/

@light, how many spins you given this? I was pretty cold on it initially but it has grown immensely.

Not really! The audio at a lot of small venues/bar shows is extremely washed out and problematic. Saw Birds in Row and KEN Mode ages ago at a bar and it was a good time but the acoustics were dreadful. I hope to see them both in the future at a much better venue. I'm not saying all small/bar venue's are like this but it can be an issue.

I can agree there. I saw Haywire play a 400 cap DIY venue and their sound/mix wasn't great at all but they brought the energy along w the crowd so it was a blast. The sound guy/rig can really make a huge difference quality wise

@Hooper - I think 4 or 5. It's maybe just a little too Octanecore (non-derogatory in this case) for what I prefer. The guitarwork is insane but I'm not really being drawn in by the vocals like I have in the past.
|
| |
I think one of my favorite things about this album from them is that they so smoothly made their sound more 'accessible' or 'octanecore' without sacrificing their sound.
I just finished listening to this album and the new yellowcard album started spinning right after it... Now that is a sanitized and lame album.

Same here Feather. So many mainstream post hc/metalcore bands are trying to be "radio friendly" to tour on the butt rock festival circuit. Its refreshing to see a band do this sound justice without compromising what made em great previously

Yeah I can definitely respect what they're doing. I'm just not really a hard rock kind of guy so this isn't hitting for me like I'd hoped.

Can see your point Light. Maybe it will grow with a few more listens, but perhaps not. I really feel like the rhythm section of this band deserves more praise and that this album really highlights that. Vocally, I think Brent has matured quite a lot. This album probably doesn't reach the heights of Empty Black for me, but I think in their most mature and concise album without doubt

Yeah that's a fair call about smaller venues sound. The couple of small venues l have been to for metal shows have not been bad for its sound at least to my ears. The Metro in Sydney is a small place but i've found it to be quite good sonically and probably my fav place to see shows.
