And yet... little to no talk about how massive the riff in 'cut hands' is... hmm...

"Departing is such a moody, pulsating number, it's a perfect closer for the album"

I can see that and I like it for the first couple minutes but to me it needed to go somewhere, it stays in this sluggish pace for the whole song and doesn't really develop into anything interesting for me.

I think about you all the time would have been a much better closer IMO just need to resolve that last chord and have a long fade out.

Cut Hands and Infinite Source are my clear favs here. Closer is probably third.

Just went through both Ohms and this back to back and imo Ohms is clearly the stronger album overall, but I will probably be in the minority who thinks so.

I’m sad the consensus of this album is kinda crap. But idk I just can’t get enough of it. I’m already on my 5th loop and it’s just absolutely everything I ever wanted and then some from them

Ohms aged pretty well, I've never understood some of the hate that album gets

Ohms is good. It was def #5 Deftones for me before this album. But 6 is still fine. All Deftones is good deftones (except for Gore), but it’s not bad it’s just meh

Plus ohms feels fresh with new ideas, almost everything here sounds like copy paste of old song ideas wrapped in a diamond eyes sound to make it sound like that album again, only less inspired.

I can understand the disappointment of lack of innovation but it really perfects the formula. It feels like it’s somewhere between Koi No Yokan and Saturday Night Wrist. But every song is better than most on SNW, but not quite as epic as KNY. But both albums are extremely good. Koi is an obvious 5 and SNW is 4.5. But it’s not really going for “epic” in scope. It’s just Deftones making pretty music again, and even better than their last “pretty” album

This definitely feels like a more natural progression from KNY. Personally, I think it's stronger than Ohms (which isn't a bad album) and is an album that I'll actually revisit in its entirety. It's interesting to see which songs everyone enjoys. I'm glad to see there are individuals who enjoy Locked Club and Cut Hands, which I think are the weakest tracks, but I've always enjoyed atmosphere over chaos.

On a side note, I've always wished that they would release a remixed version of Gore and give it the same sonic treatment they gave DE, KNY, or Ohms. I'm thankful that Private Music doesn't suffer from the same flat and compressed sound found throughout Gore, despite both containing shoegaze elements.

SNW has Rapture, Beware, Cherry, Rats and Combat and they alone all slay anything on private music imo.

Taking the entire album into consideration, I feel that Private Music sits slightly higher than SNW, but only because despite SNW containing some of my favorite songs, it also contains Pink Cellphone, haha.
