“I don't wanna make it seem like I don't like this album because it is fantastic but man all of the hyperglazing just isn't warranted imo. Especially when they have 3 albums that are better lol. The "BEST ALBUM EVER" talk just drives me nuts lol.

"COTM is bae" you might want to rephrase that, bae means "shit" in Danish
Unless you're calling it shitty

If shit is good then yes!
But with a band like Deafheaven there is no wrong answer for what is their best album tbh

oh i have to agree tbh. they're the first band since MCR that has challenged my limiting to three album 5s per band rule (for 5's being an Exclusive Club type reasons) bc they have four easy 5-worthy albums

To hijack the thread for a minute: do you guys ever write music then get immediately discouraged because you compare whatever you write to the best stuff you know and find yourself wondering what's the point of releasing something that isn't at least somewhat innovative or standout in some way?
I think we should all write music for our own enjoyment obviously and its subjective but in terms of recording and releasing it I could just never bring myself to put something put that I felt had more or less been done before and done better and was somewhat redundant.
Which applies to everything I write
Anyone relate?

i get that feeling a lot, even more so when I'm super moved by an album but it looks like the entire world is dogging on it, it's like "well clearly i'll be hated if I take influence from it" type bs

Album blew me away and this from a “meh” fan of the band. I still can’t get over the production. Flawless. Every song is unique and memorable. I just wish there were more clean vocals, they flow effortlessly with the overall aura of the music. Favorite track : Amethyst.
Excellent review and thanks.

kinda, but if I squint hard enough I can definitely see it. A lot of merit to that album aside from my own personal enjoyment (and I like it a lot).

I am to careful with giving 5s evern tho there are plenty of bands that is tempting to give multipble 5s to!
Yeah, i think that can be a very difficult part of creating music or making songs to compare oneself to your influences and just artists that are considered good in general. Yes, hard relate

constantly fighting myself over whether im being too liberal or too conservative with my 5's - there's prob at least 50 records in my 4.5's worthy of the upgrade but i think i don't connect with them as much as my existing 5's

Me too Lass. I recently raised mine from 21 to 25. It’s a work in progress shall we say. I feel like an explosion is imminent.
