it's interesting that this seems to appeal to outsiders of the genre more than those who are super deep in, the backing is pretty much no different and Poppy isn't a particularly emotionally evocative singer but it works for what it is

And i have also said im incredibly picky with metalcore now

spiritbox are very generic. god damn lmao.

Spiritbox might seem "generic," but calling them that is a bit off. They really helped shape this sound a couple of years back, so while you could label them as generic, it doesn't quite capture their role as pioneers in the scene.

100% prefer Poppy to Spiritbox here. they both deserve all the respect

Courtney's got more of an emotive presence when it comes to clean singing, i'm not sure who wins the scream battle but Courtney does win the singing battle

Tundra, comparing LMTF to Invent Animate is wack as fuck LMAO, they aren't really that similar from what I've heard of them

I really disagree with that tbh, admittedly this record is a lot fresher in my memory than anything Spiritbox but imo Poppy’s clean vocals have far more personality and she writes much catchier hooks.
So ig if you’re going for something a little more dramatic and that takes itself more seriously then yeah, go with Spiritbox. But I don’t think the pop-metalcore genre as a whole should be taking itself so seriously, ultimately I just find this to be a lot more fun and engaging than anything I’ve heard from Spiritbox

I like both in equal measure, personally. Different sides of the pop-metalcore spectrum, and I don't mind Spiritbox being a little more serious. Then again, I was partially raised on musical theater stuff, so the dramatic stuff doesn't stick out as a negative too much in my eyes

Im really not shitting on Spiritbox, I just find it genuinely fascinating that someone who loves them then claims to hate this so much, when it’s very much just like you said, on the other end of the spectrum of whatever you wanna call this.

i think for me, Poppy's clean singing can often veer into the "robotic" sound that I don't usually love, whereas Courtney and other singers like her go more into the dramatic/emotive sound that I like

@wildcard yeah it fascinates me too, the two artists are very much two sides of the same coin, and both sides are super shiny. It's especially confusing with this album, where Cost of Giving Up is practically Spiritbox worship
@venin I think that's actually why I love Poppy so much, it gives me nostalgia for when I was obsessed with Vocaloid shit LMAO

Ok ok but hear me out:
They all suck

I'm picky with metalcore vocals and especially female vocals but idk... Poppy just fucking does it for me. Clean or otherwise.

"my preference is usually for rawer voices tbh" this should have been obvious the second i put Sonny era FFTL above bands like Maiden and Priest on my ratings here XD
