"The guy is an acquired taste, and very extra. But he is scary and really intense, moreso than your average hardcore screamer."

yeah, I can see that. It's easily the most distinctive aspect of this and if you happen to dislike the vox, it's game over. I've heard worse, but not really a fan of his tone.

The production isn't for me either, lacks depth. It also feels like they have a nasty habit of destroying any groove before it's gotten going, which should be the absolute bread and butter of this style. Yet despite the seeming desire to do something more than simply crushing skulls, none of the 'experiments' are all that interesting

Sit & Mourn easily the best on here. Really miss the death metal worming riffs that Cole would fuse into their music. Makes the constant slamming breakdown thing tiring for me after a few songs -even as creative as they are with breakdowns. The short(er) length also helps with that, although I could still def cut a couple tracks from this. Might grow on me more with time. EP is still peak tho

i find it very funny that if this band existed in 2008 everyone would be making fun of it and calling it hot topic scenecore but here we are in 2024 and everyone digs it.

that’s not a comment on their quality it’s just interesting how public perception of genres changes as each new generation gets ahold of them.

im convinced if you erased emmure from all historical records and rereleased felony under that Jesus piece bands name it would have a 3.50 on rym and an 8/10 from revolver.

Felony is a stretch lmao but I see what you're getting at Hype. I do agree it is interesting seeing the revival in more 90s/2000s metalcore in the hardcore scene lately. A lot of bands are borrowing from the past and becoming bigger than any of the legends ever were
