I can agree it's a bit pretentious to overly stuff your music full of high-minded concepts your fans probably won't even look into that much, but the concepts themselves def aren't just nonsense or mumbo jumbo: https://www.thefader.com/2023/03/23/liturgy-the-fader-interview-feature
also, pretentious =/= bad

would say liturgy are also the more accommodating band by far - one ultra-dense listen to the effect of "wow this is kinda good lol will never hear it again" vs. 10+ listens of "wtf do people hear in this corny bs how much exposure does a boi need"

Liturgy has some excellent music. I wouldn’t call it true black metal, but if it sounds good, I couldn’t give less of a shit about that part. It’s got some tangible skramz influence and some avant garde and chamber music qualities and it’s just a stunning rollercoaster of sounds. HH won’t be the first person to dress their music up in pretentious extracurricular concepts and neither will she be the last. Probably prefer Sunbather to any particular Liturgy release but with Liturgy’s last LP, it’s close.

So... getting back to this album... I feel like I should enjoy this way, way more than I currently do. On the surface it's everything I love (emotional, passionate, great musicianship, comparisons to Deafheaven, etc.) but it's just kind of blending into a wall of noise for me at the moment. I must have given it a good 7 or 8 listens already and it's just not quite clicking for some reason

it's actually impressive how you can completely misinterpret entire paragraphs of text so consistently, but here we are I guess. Maybe stick to the 2 word 'this sux' comments in future
Good comments Million

Hey everyone, I checked out Liturgy. About 1/3 of The Ark Work and a few songs off of 93696. Its not for me, points for being unique, but all in all it felt like it was shooting to be VERY grand and felt a bit thin and cheap to me. Not particularly impressed with anything I heard. The symphonic elements mixed with the pulsing beat and screams sounds neat in concept.
We can finally stop talking about them now!
