Saw these guys live the other week in London, what a fucking show. BJ is a monstrous drummer and the amount of different samples/instruments/screamed vox Johnny juggles is incredible.
Great review btw, Gonzo.

Thanks man. Nice to see more people appreciating this, though, I’ll admit, I’ve not listened to it for a good while haha.
Yeah, they’re a great band live. I normally always catch them when they come to the UK, but I didn’t bothered this time around.

I've been meaning to see them for years, but every time tickets were on sale money was tight - I wish I'd managed to see them during the Death Magic/Slaves of Fear cycles but they put on a hell of a show.

Hateful is such a banger, such a great production job. Sounds awesome on speakers and high end headphones.

Honestly, anything they make is headphone candy - the production quality of this band is exquisite.

The candy part I agree on, but I feel like most electronic music feels quite lifeless on the headphones I previously owned. When I heard this on my speakers from the TV I was surprised how much energy was actually. Now with my new headphones that energy properly translates and I love it. Candy + Energy combined!

"The atmosphere in particular is extremely distinct, oppressive and unrelentingly claustrophobic, feeling like you’re being smothered by a production taking great pleasure in pounding you to dust with its planet-colliding breakdowns and capacious rhythms."
These words are basically antonyms. What gives? Is the album suffocating or spacious?

I mean, this album both sucks and blows at the same time, so some contradiction is natural.

Touché. Revolutionary album. Altering the fabric of reality in that it can simultaneously be everything and nothing
(for real tho, that quote in general is one of the funniest excerpts from a review I've encountered. Genuinely good craic / would read again)

I mean, pro editors catch stuff like this. When I write pro, my editor bouncing back the shit I come up with is always embarassing as hell but the raw version never hits the print so people don't make fun of me thankfully.

After having listened to the album myself (unfortunately) I can confirm that it is in fact neither claustrophobic nor capacious. It is merely shit.

but i'm sure your bowels feel a whole lot more capacious having got it over and done with

it may be amusing to defecate in this rat-infested sewer of an album (thread), but I want it to be known that I remember their first two offerings rather fondly (part of the issue here, me thinks)
