Interesting, I think SBS is their best production (classic era).
You're talking about sound engineering right?

Notrap, i know that while technically it's recorded and produced 'better' than any of the previous, it
lacks the punch and power that paranoid especially has despite, or maybe even because of, its rawness.
Also, it seems to be mastered awfully quietly, though that just might be the version i've got.

SBS's diversity is trully great but when it comes to heaviness it pales in comparisson with the previous 4 albums.

"it lacks the punch and power that paranoid especially has despite"
Yeah definitely. SBS is their most progressive effort. Their idea was to try something different this time and in my opinion they made one of their best albums to date.

I feel like calling Sabbath progressive is a bit of stretch... I'm ignorant when it comes to progressive metal (Death is the band to check, from what I have heard), but Sabbath pretty much sticks to its guns (Pentatonic scale), at least in its early releases. I think the pentatonic scale sounds really good in these first few releases.
