Kinda love how the closer just eschews all of the dynamics that they showcase on the rest of the album and just pummels instead

"I wonder what your eq settings are if the prod sounds terrible. Certainly think this is their best produced album"
It's just REALLY goddamn compressed at times. Especially on the first couple songs, the lack of dynamic range really doesn't help. It clears up Full Tilt onwards though.
the overcompression is a widespread problem and really tests me when it comes to even albums I love - someday I'll buy the stems for P3 and re-master the whole album akin to my vision.

Sputnik losing its collective mind over a solid but unspectacular metalcore album? At least some things never change.
The grooves groove hard but a lot of the more melodic stuff is grating and sterile. Pretty clearly their weakest release imo

I think whether or not this tops Firsthand Accounts will boil down to the listener's taste regarding the more melodic bits, cause the heavier shit on here is just as good or better than everything before it. For the most part they played it super safe and went for a very accessible style of melody and that's gonna rub some people the wrong way
I think a big part of why I like Full Tilt so much is that it incorporates tons of melody in a way that blends seamlessly into their own established sound, whereas on Why Becomes How or that bridge in Only By Name they kinda just sound like they're pulling influence from other groups

That run from 2040 to Ring Light Altar is god tier. Does slip in quality a bit towards the end but No Comply is insane and the closer is pretty damn good too.
Gatekeeper and Bright Future are the only ones I'm not in love with but still solid tracks.

If there's one thing I can complain about with this band it's honestly their name. Sounds like a mf country singer more than a metalcore band. Who the hell is Johnny Booth anyways?
