not a priority but it still has places to go
this is the most embarrassing album for this site since Loathe
|
| |
my summary for the thread is
this good because emotion, this bad because conceited melodrama cringe pretentious bad singing
|

Moodboard
Verb:
To torture someone with an array of moods, like waterboarding, but with pretty colors
“For when your emotions depend on melodrama to be worth feeling, get moodboarded! It’ll make those 2/5 moments feel magical!
‘Wow, everyone! I’m 4.5ing all over the place’
‘Cool!’”

thank you this is a useful term

Listened to this yesterday and I think it’s better than their first two albums but they’re still not hitting their potential. I think it’s the R&B/pop moments that turn me off as the moody atmospheric bits are decent. It’s probably a 3 for me.
Also Loathe rule and don’t deserve to be in the conversation with this band Johnny

“Matt Healy went on the not-cumtown podcast and made a bunch of racist jokes”
oh yeah lol that was a little weird sometimes but mostly funny
“He also did a Nazi salute on stage. https://twitter.com/waystarnatco/status/1618735841593163778”
lmao rock on definitely a real nazi

all the worst parts of car bomb + most of the worst parts of deftones yup yup
|
| |
i thought it was odd how matt sometimes came off sounding like an obsessed fan at times on the podcast but other than that he was a decent guest
wild people look at that out of context 3 second clip and claim he was nazi saluting when it literally just looks like he does a normal salute and holds his hand slightly too long in an awkward position, but thats what he gets for cultivating a fanbase of dumbasses
now if he could focus on actually making a consistent album that isnt 3 absolute bangers amidst an hour long album worth of otherwise shite pseudo-artsy nonsense for people who's most esoteric connection to art and media is wearing john lennon glasses then that would be better
|
| |
i havent read about it but even if it was a real nazi salute he was prob referencing kanye since thats what he was singing about when he did it
misguided decision at worst but idk why u would call him a nazi lol

I don’t get it because during the multiple listens I attempted with this, the lyricism did absolutely nothing for me and was not as profound as their image plays out to be. Gimmick or not, this band has a shtick including the frontman literally referring to himself as “Vessel” but the messages behind their songs are at best one note and at worst nonsensical. Even just reading the lyrics, a bunch of the songs on here are just poetic word vomit written within a pretty narrow thematic range (in my opinion). They say a lot without saying much at all, a lot of flash but not a ton of substance.
The vocal inflections on many parts of this are unbearable too, it’s what truly kills this album. If Vessel toned down the vocal nonsense a bit I’d probably like this way better despite my issues with the messages within the song.

"music for line cooks"
yes

Yeah, regarding the Matt Healy "Nazi" thing, in the clip he is referencing Kanye and what he says is word for word a Donald Trump tweet - he's clearly trying to be political in an edgy and attention-grabbing way. Hate to defend the guy since he's one of the cringiest people in modern music, but pretty clear that this isn't a sign he's a fascist.
