My 2-cents: If you listen to a band you don't like or a genre you don't like, then don't rate the album. It's clearly not for you. On the other hand, if you're listening to a band or genre you do like and can't make it through the album, but still rate it... makes sense to me.
This is a site where a vast majority of users only use the ratings function and move on. It's also a site where a large portion of the albums don't have reviews and are totally represented by that little red number. I'd say those two things make having accurate average ratings pretty important.
It's why we delete 'troll ratings' and perform ratings wipes on people giving low ratings to entire discographies.

For sure man, if I'm checking out a band I know nothing about and they have multiple albums in their discography, I'm going to almost always check out the ones with the higher ratings first. I use it as a tool, so I appreciate some effort going into them.

Bumped up a bit after another full listen. There are parts of this I really like and parts I totally hate. The chorus of Pure Light of Mind is probably my high point on the whole thing. Even in their shittiest albums they always have that one song that bops.

So if the album rating trend continues this way for in flames next album, I can safety expect in between a 3.9 and 4.1

Then after that album we'll have the site's first ever 4.7 with a significant amount of ratings

On one hand, I want to check this.
On the other, having heard the singles, I feel like the band's getting brownie points for finally trying after pissing about for years.
I'm sure it's like, fine... but I don't want just fine from these guys, especially when DT, Amorphis, Soilwork, etc. all had strong late-career hits. They're too far behind the curve for me to pat 'em on the back for a decent-enough effort.

I feel like checking out a new album is pretty low stakes, but if you know you aren't going to like it maybe just pass on it. This album probably won't change your mind on your opinion of latter day In Flames, but I think it's fair to say it is a step in the right direction for the band

Some of the lyrics here are a big oof but damn this is the most fun I’ve had listening to In Flames since Come Clarity. Also Anders’ vocals in general sound much better than what I’ve been used to
