>Classic/dad rock
How the hell are you listening to this thinking it sounds like classic/dad rock? There's far too much groove / triphoppy stuff for it to be considered anything close to that

Its okay...a little too Cedric worship and everything serving it (and he's not even that good here).
I miss the conflict of the instruments trying to stand out on each track. Also, its a no rocker

I was very hyped when I heard that TMV is back - one of my most favorite bands ever. The past two albums were a kind of decline, so I was hoping they would be back to full power now! But, unfortunately, it is quite the opposite: The new album sounds like Cedric recorded it alone at his home studio, singing to a drum computer (I actually was surprised that they credit a real drummer). What happened to those super-elaborate drum patterns by Thomas Pridgen or Deantoni Parks? Also, Omar Rodríguez is mostly absent from this album. Yes, he adds a few guitar sounds here and there, but they are mostly so low in the mix that it doesn't count. The album is *very* focused on Cedrics vocals. And there is *not* a single track on this album that captures the pure power and "controlled chaos" that made their earlier works so great. Overall, this would have been fine as a Cedric solo-project. But, as a *TMV* album, it just doesn't do the band justice...
(at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever)

Cedric's vocal register screams "just let me die" these days. It's not the Cedric I remember in the early 00's.

Still can’t wrap my mind around people saying this doesn’t have familiar elements. Did you guys never hear songs like vicarious atonement or since we’ve been wrong or

I don't know, man. vicarious atonement builds up and evolves and also creates atmosphere through taking time for that. None of the songs of the new album does any of that at all. So, if you look beyond the notion of being rather calm songs, there is no similarity at all with Vicartious atonement.
That said, this being Cerdic on vocals alone is a very strong familiar element. And some few elements especially from Octahedron and Noctourniquet can be found. Still by far the strongest outlier of their discography...

The more I listen to it, the more "Volta" it gets to me. Graveyard Love in particular was a song I wrote off immediately, but now I'm thinking it might be one of the coolest numbers here. It translates extremely well live, too.

I was more talking about the way the melodies are structured, especially vocally rather than the fact half of that song is a guitar solo lol
