Deathrattle is my favorite NJ record since Meridional. I think it's because it traffics in a lot of the same ethereal ambiance. Related, this album release made me realize that there was no sputnik entry for NJ's Birds and Microscopes... compilation, so I added one.

What BS happened with Cory a few years ago? I preordered this new album but haven’t really listened to NJ much over the years.

hes j known to be a tone deaf loser who said some v tasteless things about the blm protests, lockdowns, among other things throughout the years. idk if hes gotten any better since he was run off twitter. i do know a lot of folks in his inner circle reallllllly did not vibe w some of his remarks (rightfully so) and id like to think he learned something from them but hes also given no reason for me to give him the benefit of the doubt soo

oh damn is that why his lyrics have always sucked and seemed so weirdly judgemental?

well Sput doesn't think so, the averages are (presumably) almost identical to average out at 4-a-piece

my gradually eroding faith in the system was undoubtedly misplaced, I should know better by this point

most albums are overrated due to the fact that most people only listen to music they are interested in (and which theyre more likely to enjoy)

of course there are exceptions and infamous bands that people flock to knowing they will dislike it but more or less most 4s are actually 3s

In this instance I'm not sure that's relevant Mort. I wasn't lamenting the fact All Hail is a 4 and not particularly good (could say that about tonnes of stuff)... I was merely referencing the similarity between the averages (vs Polar Similar). Same band, obviously.

to be fair I skirt so far around a point sometimes that I forget what I was trying to say, understandably confusing for any unfortunate souls attempting to decipher the nonsense I'm spewing

yeah theres this weird tendency in southern metalcore to have lyrics be talking down to a large group of people in a 'you seem to believe......but you dont realise it actually makes you........' sorta way

no i wont post examples im lazy and talking out my ass

y'all are funny....talk about judgemental. So the guy doesn't believe what you believe. How dare he! Who cares?! He's one person. It's funny that you give him power like that. He's one guy who has his opinions on whatever, just like we all do. Maybe he's like Kyrie Irving and thinks the earth is flat...who cares?! The idea that I'm not going to listen to a band because one of the members believes things that I don't believe is so crazy to me. Basically, can't listen to music anymore. And the blm, covid, trump stuff...so he's more conservative than you. So what? I have lots of conservative and liberal friends and I'm more moderate, but we all come together to listen to awesome music. He and his brother did a side project band called orphantwin together and just released an EP. Funny thing about that is that his brother is as liberal as they come and believes the opposite of him on almost everything and yet they still come together and do music because it's a thing they share in common. The "I'm not going to listen to his band because he said mean things on twitter" is so tired....time to grow up people and realize it's OK to not see the world the same way. We don't see the world the same way our parents and grandparents do and our kids and grandkids certainly won't see it the same way we do either and will probably think poorly of our generations for something we did or didn't do "right".
