damn did not expect this to be really fucking good. second half tapers off a little but the first half of this kicks so much ass. really interesting combo of tech thrash and crossover. some really wild riffs on here, dittohead is nuts. killing fields too. tons of variety in the riffs as well.
tom is absolutely manic especially the shouting on the t/t. bostaph is a really good replacement, thought he killed it. 213 is a cool pseudo sequel to dead skin mask, serenity in murder is really fun. massively underappreciated album, especially considering what was happening in metal at the time.

this feels like it just had a lot of factors against it. first one following a legendary run, no lombardo and a rawer mix that people don't like i guess. it sounds fine to me! caught me off guard though. really was shocked on technical a lot of this is. i think this deserves a re-listen from people who haven't heard it in a bit. crazy when all other big thrash was on the radio slayer dropped this.

bostaph is good but like 1:40 on Killing Fields it feels like he's just doing whatever, completely clashing with the rhythm of the guitars/vox.

yeah like i hear what you mean but idk it really doesn't distract me. plus it's a tech-y song so off rhythm stuff is pretty common. but honestly you do know way more than me about theory/production. i like the songwriting and performances enough to carry me. especially tom, he sounds great here. super aggressive.

my man! yes absolutely, love that one. weaves between atmospheric doom and tech-y thrash amazingly. that intro is really cool. so many cool riffs. and tom shouting the hook at the top of his lungs goes so hard.
