Based on my first listen where I wasn't paying super close attention and dozed off once or twice (just because tired not because boring) this is an EZ 4+ but I strongly suspect that sitting down and reading along with the lyrics will bring it firmly into 4.5 territory
Excellent stuff am real glad to be aboard the hype train for a new release for a change

nice to have you mushroom hat man
don't sleep on Prelude EP it whips

The prospect of music from this band that doesn't take up 90-odd minutes of my day is an appetizing one to be sure! Will check, probably once I have listened to this another time or two

"The imagery of it is so beautiful and moving. This album is outstanding"
'this isn't how this story's supposed to go' actual tears every time

I get huge Antlers vibes from that concluding vocal section in Eve, the way it places us in the real world and shatters the illusion of the story. especially "a life I must remind myself is mine" ooooof

omg yes the Antlers is what the slower bits remind me of!!

I know Dear Hunter is the obvious comparison but Eve reminds me of a hybrid of Mae and The Receiving End of Sirens

But weirdly the line that sticks with me most is
"I can't bow to how it is when I need what it means"

^ amazing moment. I really hope the first 3 songs here don't get glossed over because of how massive June Meets July is. In Media Res in particular is stunning
|
| |
Welp, this is for sure a record that I will need more time with. Nice vibes, but it's kinda chaotic too

I cannot take the intro of in media res out of my mind, it´s really a beautiful melody
gotta get into this properly though. I bought the flac version and was disappointed to see no booklet lol

Holy shit this is fantastic. I think I just pulled through the last 40 minutes, digital booklet (mistakes and all lol), it's just something else on a different scale. I am fairly confident this is a 5.
And to think there is NOT ONE fucking CHORUS on this disc. The whole disc is pure melody. Damn this guy has a fan for life. I am floored

yeah i gotta buy this on bandcamp, they put so much fkn work into this and don't have a ton of listeners yet

aside from O Tonight, sorry I was really talking about the last 40 mins there that were more etched into my mind. but yeah they really don´t follow a standard pop song structure for most of the 97 mins here

Hi, Rowan! Nice review!

i gotcha, definitely get the point that conventional song structures aren't really the band's focus
but yeah if this ever comes out in vinyl I might buy it and I don't even have a record player
