Well no, it's not
They probably think post-punk is too "pretentious" which is why Daughters fares well here as well as RYM

So yes a difference in taste, but we get stuff like Jessie Ware's latest highly rated here and that doesn't scream Sputnik
|

from the kexp, the new Black Midi is looking pretty mid indeed
new jessie ware was just v classy and v catchy, not hard to see why it held such a board appeal. please see: DDD's soundoff for further evidence
|

>but we get stuff like Jessie Ware's latest highly rated here and that doesn't scream Sputnik
it doesnt scream sputnik but it is probably fundamentally more accessible right?

So do you think Squid, BCNR, and Black Midi are trying too hard to be "quirky" and the next best thing in rock music and Sput is put off by that?
Jessie's album is very accessible yes, but I've been on here since the early 2010s and pop albums usually get shit on or had a tendency to

>but I've been on here since the early 2010s and pop albums usually get shit on
they seem to be getting shit on less and less since the early 2010s, across the board, across the internet... which is probably a good thing
granted i dont know jessie ware but i have to assume she doesnt give the vibe of a multimilionaire manufactured product right? or use controversial marketing....

most pop albums don't have half the class WYP did, which is why i stress that; much harder to dismiss as purely superficial than most pop albums if you're a simp that way
+ revivalism cred for people who don't usually jam pop but have more nostalgia for 80s(-influenced) shit than they do contemp stuff. plus Emotion bursting the pop bubble here and the obvious followthrough of retro vibes from that onto much other stuff that has been positively received here
"So do you think Squid, BCNR, and Black Midi are trying too hard to be "quirky" and the next best thing in rock music and Sput is put off by that?"
idc what they're 'trying' to do, BCNR and Black Midi are mostly stale composition exercises (this feels fresher tbf but also I don't vibe much with it). I can half vibe with BCNR's sardonic side, which makes them my fav of the three, but with all of them it feels like they're taking a range of ideas that once came from such volatile, inspired places and are running them v competently through a dry series of alternative possibilities that feels totally soulless to me
and that sucks

I see, I guess I don't feel that way, to me they are just doing art/post punk through a modern lens and it feels refreshing to hear

"play 6 minutes of a 7/8 guitar riff and say shit like “i remember when we fucked against my Sonic Youth poster / your father stood in line at Tesco for a toaster” and then start blaring every horn instrument you can find around the 4 minute mark and rym will be like “this literally feels like i am witnessing the construction of the pyramids of giza” good review
yeah this shit is just unoriginal and also has that private art school gleem that gets on me tits
|

it's a recycling experiment and the sardonic/qurikabsurd qualities of all bands will age extremely badly
like, the 90s have already happened
|

pop albums usually get shit on
Good

ghandhi you obviously haven't had the urge to jam carly rae jepsen before bed all week
|
| |
ghandhi sees through zeitgeists like a wolfowl through mild fog, he is immune to pop music
|
| |
anyone remember the zeitgeist kino
