Bumped this one up to 4.5 after a few more listens, not a weak moment on this one.

agreed about the production, it's a little less sharp than red before black but it's still pretty dense and heavy so i think it's still a pretty good job compared to some of their others

Production on here is surprisingly good I’d say, at least on vinyl and compared to a lot of more recent metal releases.

Drums are a little muddy for my taste. Kinda feel like the toms are often drowned out in the mix

I remember seeing the woman figure on the cover of this album but it was a close up image, maybe it was the single cover art but I thought it sucked ass, didn't see the full image until now and looks much better than the one i saw. The one I saw looked like a metalcore band had made it.

I like the one you're referring to much, much more. Luckily it is the main one on Spotify lol

Apparently it's the censored version they put out due to label concerns which is lame

The Mileena headshot is pretty cool tho. I didn't like it at first either, but it grew on me

one of the most solid dm releases of the year. absolute insanity to think that a band 30 years into its life is still releasing music that others have to work hard to even match

To be fair, they've been on semi auto pilot for nearly 20 of those. Very little in the way of risks or anything like that.

Not hatin, just statin

I dont think it'd be appropriate to say they "honed their craft" in the last 10 years, but I do enjoy Torture, A Skeletal Domain, and this quite a bit more than most of their older output. Major exception being The Bleeding. I really should do a fresh, proper run of their stuff though; this has really reinvigorated my interest in the band more than ever

i think their "semi-auto pilot" is at least excusable compared to some bands since each album has at least a subtle difference in sound? definitely not a lot of big experiments obviously

dude you could take pretty much all of CC's songs since corpsegrinder showed up, randomly put them in each album and noone would blink

Man I just dont agree with that lol but fair enough. In general sound, sure. But their albums vary wildly in execution to me
