Another bandcamp-only®️ gem. Here I come... Strangely, while being on dissonant death metal binge, this seems like normal, enjoyable on first hearing record.

Hmmm only a 3.0? Maybe I need to re-check this. Because their previous album was a modern dm masterpiece.

I didn't get much from this album on my first listen. Took until like the 5th to really get it

Id try it again tec

It's a little different sonically and compositionally. I did love it on first listen but it has grown quite a bit since then

Do still think NQVOE is the best post-eif dm record

This is so much more of a demanding listen than NQVOE. Not that that's bad....but NQVOE is just slightly-avant-garde leaning dm banger after banger. This is way more challenging imo so I don't jam it as often, but it's always a trip

yeah NQVOE is certainly an easier listen. The compositions still have many layers but I think the guitar sounds are more familiar. III kind of goes off the wall in many areas. I wonder what a third record would sound like, which I imagine we'd be waiting another year or two for...

Probably longer, iirc they issued a statement shortly after this came out saying something to the effect of "dont expect another record for quite a while"

I’ve heard this on many occasions in the past

Put it on. Strong Baltic Porter at the ready. And I swear, this is an entirely different beast. I’m not finished but this is at holy shit levels of good so far. It’s like I’m listening to a different album

It’s gonna be hard not just jamming this again tomorrow instead of the new Ulcerate lol (yeah, why not both? Etc.)

I always appreciated the dynamics / production more so than the compositions. The debut hit harder, until now

I mean it’s still A LOT, but I feel like more is sticking beyond just respectful appreciation

I honestly like the debut a tiiiiiny bit more because its a tad more lofi and thats how I prefer a lot of my metal nowadays. The dirtier the better which is a huge 180 from my early metal listening days. Still dig some twinkly shit every now and again though.

Too often I hear people describe metal as "noise". I never understood where they were coming from until I heard this album. I can only describe this cacophony of audible discharge as "completely inconsumable". How anyone can make heads or tails of this mess is beyond me. The guitars sound like they're being played through an amp that had its tubes replaced with Pringles cans, and the vocalist sounds like they're attempting Mongolian throat singing whilst drowning in sulfuric acid. I think the band was cognizant of how terrible the vocals were because they turned them down so low in the mix, you can barely hear them. The first track, "Sub specie aeternitatis" reminded me of a moment in my childhood when I emptied a cutlery tray into a garbage disposal. Somebody apparently recreated that and decided it could use a distortion pedal and some reverb. I could not bring myself to finish this mess as I had an inkling that all the tracks would sound the same. However, a few hours later I came back and gave it another go, only to find that my suspicions had been confirmed. This album is an annoying, disorganized, unpolished turd. If you value your hearing, listen to something else.

I personally like the music that sounds like garbage truck is rolling over.
