I think this album just has straight up 2 bad songs, a couple of okay ones, and the rest is pretty damn awesome. The biggest problem for me is that it feels like they didn't pay much attention to the flow of the album. Pretty sure if you flip some songs around and make your own tracklist, it would improve the overall impression. Like how is Phantom Days an opener? It literally feels like a song that should come after the midway of the album.

I enjoy Failstate and Empires lost to time a lot, but overall still prefer first half too

most of the album is pretty okay. there are a couple of moments where I was like, oh that's cool, but they are few and far between. there was a studio vlog where Amott was learning a part and he (paraphrased) says "of all the chords that exist, he chose THAT one" and shook his head, and that sentiment resonates with me every time I listen to this. I played a game with myself trying to figure out which chord he could have been referring to but honestly there are just too many to choose from.

If they only used pleasing/cliche' chord progressions, it would just be an Arch Enemy album. ;)

or Damage Done, which I would hardly call cliche, but certainly pleasing ;)

"Identical to None shouldn't have made the cut for the album, no clue why it was chosen over either of the bonus tracks."
Agree. When this single hit, it gave me a very bad feeling about the quality of the entire record. It's also kind of funny that it is called Identical to None, when it is almost identical to several other DT tracks, except that it is not as good of a song.

For now I feel this peaks with the Dark Unbroken - Unknown - Standstill combo. Really wish they did more with the closer, full cleans is interesting but they didn't really develop it imo.

Let me be the first to say that this album slaps

Haven't heard anything by these guys since Fiction, this was pretty alright

This album is good on its own merit but I can’t throw on Character and then follow it up with this album, without thinking Moment is just pretty mediocre. I guess it’s high time I accept that they’ll never be the band they were when Character came out ever again.

Why the bonus tracks didn't make the cut confuses me.

at 14 tracks it would've made the album a bit long

I think both Phantom Days and A Drawn Out Exit reach Character levels of awesomeness
