sure Mars...yet some think some type of emo vocals are kinda cheesy...there's a thin line there
Now I have to listen to this to clear that up.

Haha I get slight hints of power metal from this, no lie. Just melodically.
And I think it's cheesy when the guitars go "WEEEEwooWEEEEwooooo"

Don't think these are very weak at all but alrighty
Clean melodic leads in of themselves aren't just inherently cheesy

Maybe I just think they are and you don't. Just like one person might like jalepenos and another doesn't. It's just that they're this high pitched, almost sickly sweet sound to me. It's not the register that's the problem, it's how they play in it. I've heard plenty of post-rock/etc with high string trem picking that I love. But yeah, the guitar work of something like Deafheaven is much more impactful and raw feeling to me.

I don't find the harshes to be weak, and while yes they are a bit one dimensional, they fit the music perfectly. This isn't cheesy either really, unless you think melody itself is cheese lol

This isn't far removed from what you can get from post genres and blackgaze from what I've heard. If that appraise doesn't mesh well here then that's all fine and dandy, but I just don't get a sense of cheese here given how the melodies are presented.

The melodies are bright, major keyed, and happy quite often. I find that this tends to not work in metal/heavy contexts for me. Big part of why I find most power metal corny. lol Melodicism in and of itself is great. I just prefer it more somber or dramatic. Not gonna find me critiquing the newest Deathspell Omega or Ulcerate records because they're melodic.

I'm not sure I still get the happy sense especially in something like "Clickbait," gotta be honest

There is nothing happy about this.

"This isn't far removed from what you can get from post genres" Idk bands like Isis, Intronaut, Altar of Plagues, or Alpinist all do it in a much darker way to my ear. Even straight up post rock like If These Trees Could Talk sounds more dramatic, dark, and melodically interesting to me on a song like "Malabar Front".
Sorry if that's frustrating also. Not trying to say you're wrong or I'm right, just trying to articulate how I feel and why. lol

I think i understand what you mean by happy.
I also got that sense, it's weird. I love melody btw but here it feels like it's not just melodic but sometimes does feel almost happy. It's weird because the lyrics and the whole concept of the band is sort of a "protest band" or "I'm angry about this subject".
Not sure if i'm using that term correctly.

Yeah I’m reading the lyrics. Kinda funny to read a song about click bait articles too. Most of the lyrics are decent enough though.
