The raw emotions Elverum expressed in past albums (like A Crow Looked At Me) have definitely become more numb and melancholy. I appreciate that, as well as he never pretends to have answers. Ultimately I think that's more counseling to those who have experienced similar grief. The first half is drab but listener's looking for a meditative backdrop will appreciate the simplicity. Seems like the first half works to clear a listener's palate which allows color added in later stages to be very impactful.

Imagine thinking that the insipid, run-of-the-mill musical travesty that is ACLAM is better than this.

Anyone else think Sput's comment section format needs update? It's like dozens of people trying to shit into a bowl at same time. I mean check out Tool's Fear Inoculum review. Wtf we supposed to do with 20 comments a page spread across 500+ pages.

Lol damn Johnny, digging up page from clear back in Jan and I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast. But come on why can't we have nice things. What about comment chains. A display all comments option. Simple quality of life stuff.

After about a decade of occasionally trying to get into the microphones 'The Glow Pt. 2', it has officially clicked and now I am about to enter a binge.
What microphones and mt. eerie albums are must listens? Or what approach should i take to listening through the discography? There is soooo much to hear...

After my first listen I found this a bit boring, but after a few more listens I just keep coming back to it. The whole folk/indie-drone soundscape is just pretty appealing. And I absolutely love it when the chords get layered on top of the steady acoustic strums (happens a few times, with the first at about 11:35). In addition to finding some of the deeper lyrical themes intriguing, I also appreciated the geographical references since I grew up in Western WA and am quite familiar with Aberdeen, Olympia, etc. I could see this growing to a 4.5 with time even.
Great review, Sowing. And by the way I'm glad you're back to reviewing, hah.

I think I made the wrong move, just started with A Crow and although it is good, it is absolutely devastating.

This just exists for me. Elverum has made better works that I've heard (namely A Crow Looked at Me) and while I respect the sentiment behind this it's not something I see myself ever revisiting.
