Wiz has massive experience for sure, and he's genuinely one of the most pleasant and knowledgeable people on this site, but I can't totally disagree with JayEnder about how his vibe gets a bit old after a while. Idk, it's kind of hard to describe but sometimes Wiz's more negative opinions come off as overly combative/repetitive/gatekeep-y.

Like, it's the difference between "I didn't enjoy this and I don't really get the hype" and "I didn't enjoy this and if you did then you have shit taste," and then spending way too much time commenting about how mediocre an album that other people enjoyed actually is.

Doubt I'm ever gonna listen to this again but it was cool. If it was any longer, I wouldnt have finished it.

My thoughts exactly. He seems to know his shit don't get me wrong, but my god some of his takes just reek of snide remarks and pretentiousness. He's the ultimate ball buster in most threads I see him in.

I'm genuinely surprised by how much people are praising this. 4.5s aplenty? Don't see it

I would probably rate higher if it were an EP with 10 minutes cut out of the middle

Yeah it does, but "hey wanna listen to the first track but 10 times over" gets kinda boring, with Sands of Sleep being the exception.

The musical equivalent of a building collapsing on top of you is only so engaging before you have to mix it up a bit.

I completely agree, but with an album comes a general theme. This album's theme just so happens to be beating the listener within an inch of their life. But I understand what you mean, they could have mixed it up and added a little bit more diversity to the songs. However, I think the samples bring this all together quite nicely, and add that extra layer of depth you're talking about. Wouldn't it be a bit jarring to hear influences of melody on this album? I feel like all these songs were created solely for the purpose of crushing weaklings and mere mortals under the sheer weight of its brutality.

Sure, I guess an argument can be made for the theme of constant brutality. However, even some of the most punishing music lacking distinct melody can have some variety between songs. I couldnt tell you the difference between most of these tracks with a gun to my head, excepting the samples on the last several. I feel it would have worked better if it were shorter.

Plus, the samey-ness kills like 90% of the replay value

Ha, fair enough! The samey-ness does hinder this album a bit. If there were more tracks like Sands of Sleep I would definitely keep it at a 4.5, but I agree with your perspective.

Yea I pretty much agree with Ledd, this got old kinda fast on repeated listens. The songs by themselves are great for sure but I don't see myself jamming the full album again anytime soon
