A lot of people are vocal about disliking RTJ in general, so I'm confused to how their albums are rated so high...

RTJ3 is honestly my favorite by a good margin. Every song bangs and it has this big stadium feel that their other albums don't really bring

Because theyre the quintessential group for people who think theyre onto something different, that little bit of edge to it because their idea of Hip Hop is most of the commercial turd of today but actually theyre just like everyone else. Everyone loves RTJ apart from elitists like me.

They have a wide cross over appeal. Killer Mike is well recognised now. Mainstream cats love RTJ, Hip Hop heads, Peeps who dont fk with much music. Theyre just one of those groups. Fair play to them. They also have annoying as fk fans who think theyre doing something never seen before and are super defensive about them so get wound up by these 'minority of haters' its really weird

For me RTJ is a nice balance between artistic credibility and broad accessibility. Their bars have a decent amount of lucid social commentary but generally avoid a 'hectoring activist' tone and the production is fun and catchy, so it's super easy for a lily-white rap pleb like me to pick up and enjoy one of their albums, without feeling like it's just poppy empty calories.
