Aventine has a kind of 'soundtrack' quality to it where every melody seems to carry so much weight. I'm a real sucker for that kind of melodrama. I probably need a few more spins for this and the rest of her discog

For sure, Aventine is amazing. Love all of her stuff, over the years she's become one of my fave active artists.

This beauty of a record is still growing on me. It might be on par with her past highs for me by now actually.
Broken Sleep is one of the best here yeah.

It's great how these relatively simple songs can grow

Yeah exactly! But this amazing person always finds a way to put a spell on me with her magic. Took a few months, but I'm now convinced she's done it again.

It's really quite experimental, isn't it? Many samples and tuned voices.

Only she can do this kind stuff, that's for sure

It's a record with familiar melodies to me, I seem to remember any song off it, but can't remember listening to it that much. I was hoping for something grander than this, or different, if you will. Finger crossed she won't take another four years for the next one.

She does this so effortlessly. A really cool style that's instantly identifiable as her. Plus her production jobs are faultless, absolutely gorgeous. And seriously:

Totally. I really love the idea that she can really work out her own vision because she does everything by herself. Very cool, and she does such a great job at that too.

it's a shame that broken sleep is the only song i really connect with in returning to this. it's one of the best songs i've heard all year and i must have played it like 100 times by now but the rest just doesn't interest me anymore. i don't even know what to rate this now

Yeah that's a shame man! But at least you have that track if you need a dose of Obel.
It must be something related to that particular hook then, since many of these tracks are quite similar sounding, at least to me.

it's like a better version of riverside, which has always been my favourite obel song.

rly don't think any other melody here comes close to it

so, I just bought this and think it's cool, but for me her voice was way too loudly mixed in comparison to the instruments. would love to have more present instruments here. what about her other albums? in the review, philharmonics gets kinda ignored. what is the deal there?

Philharmonics is her most basic one, I'd say Aventine takes that approach and ups the scale. I personally love those two about equally, so it shouldn't be ignored in my opinion!
