@pots I have less than 5% of my albums rated at 5. This does resonate with me on a level that other albums this year just dont. If it's better or on par with the classics of the genre? To early to tell but I don't say it won't be.

I actually love the dudes vocals as far as post metal goes

@sheumke fair enough. I personally don't think its has anything on the classics, but that maybe more of a product of the exhaustion of the genre than of the quality of the album itself. That's why I kind of would expect a modern post metal 'classic' to break new ground a bit

@demon oh I wasnt holding myself to that idea of what people reserve 5s for. I toss out 5s like samples at costco, and most certainly NOT just for my favourite artists (in fact a large chunk of my fav albums are 4.5d). I'm evidently not talking about my own rating scheme

This is ironic because ur the one who made the personal insult, based off of me just discussing my surprise at the amount of 5s for the album and discussing my opinion on what holds it off from being a 5. People tend to get blinded by nostalgia bias here a lot. Just because Salvation came out in the early 00s when they’re getting into music they’ll claim that nothing new surpasses it. But it’s the feeling of hearing something totally new that you can never capture again as you age, usually not any objective measure. I’m super guilty of this personally, so I’m not talking about anyone in particular here.



When I look past my nostalgia bias, my first impression is that this is a top 3 album for CoL. It would take more time to figure out where exactly it lies.

I think it's unfair to say people who loved Salvation only loved it as part of their musical progression though I get where you're coming from. Who knows when people heard that album for the first time, what mindset they were in - or the context?
