Listening to this now. One thing I definitely notice right away is Corey's "growl" is definitely improved from the previous two albums. I remember after he wrecked his voice during Iowa touring (and the different scream he used for Vol 3), his "scream" was so weak sounding on All Hope Is Gone.

I guess he's pretty much healed so that's definitely a big positive going for this album.

His different scream on Vol. 3 was still amazing.

Listen to Pulse of the Maggots and tell me his vox aren't exceptional at that point in their career.

Last 3 songs are a near perfect conclusion

I agree, his Vol 3 screams were good, but he definitely had trouble consistently doing them live, especially near the end of the Vol 3 touring.

About halfway through this album now and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. There's actually some genuinely good songs here.

I am surprised by the good reviews of this album, it is a record without grief or glory.

This might be growing on me a bit

One thing I’d change about the tracklist though, I’d put Orphan as the first proper track after Insert Coin then add All Out Life into Orphan’s original spot.

Can’t believe there are people here dumb enough to say that Iowa sucks. That last track is a 15 minute lesson on how to create unsettling atmosphere

Iowa t/t is amazing. One of their greatest achievements.

iowa is a mediocre attempt at creating death metal within a mainstream alt metal framework. idk if it sucks but it's def not a notable album beyond its being relatively harsh for a mainstream-charting record.

Iowa the album is very good but not great, but the t/t is great imo.

It's alright. Feels like it drags a lot though.

that album's cool but gets a bit repetitive and long. Left Behind and Skin Ticket slap hard

Their self-titled album is everything that Iowa fails to be.

The start of the chorus from “Critical Darling” reminds me so much of “God Smack”s chorus by Alice in Chains
