I will probably drop Misthyrming down to a 4 by years end, but it is a fantastic album for sure. I just reallllllly love the Gilead 3

I want to love those 3, and I want to love the new Mizmor (the d'Artagnan of the Gilead Muskateers), but alas I just gel with that romantic nature BM the most.

I plan on making a thread where people can rec me things from 2019 I
poke me when you do; i've liked a surprising amount of bm this year and i think a lot of it's gone under the sput radar.

I'm going through a wave of self-recs. Once those are cleared out I'll open the thread and get some user recs. I'd also be curious to see if anyone would want me to go back and bump things I've already rated.

I feel ya, I love recs, it’s a great part of the community... but sometimes you’re thinking about the fact you just ‘self-rec’d’ a ton of stuff and it’ll be a good while before you can move on to anything else.

Way overhyped. I’ve heard infinitely better bm albums but New Inertia is incredible. The rest is pretty solid.

why people gotta call something everything overhyped and can’t just say they didn’t like it as much as everyone else

I didn't enjoy this as much as everyone else.
...possibly because of overhype

To be fair, the amount of build-up I personally had leading up to this release was palpable. The hype has definitely played an influence and I think it's a fair point to bring up. Sometimes when I listen to this I find myself judging it not from my perspective, but from the view that this is 5-worthy and a testament to musical beauty.

Band has deserved the hype for years and they’re finally getting the recognition they’ve earned. Get over it ;)

Don't believe the hype?
I guess it needs to be said once in a while.

I think what may be throwing people off and what threw me off with them for a long time was that if you look at FoR from a black metal perspective, they're kinda lacking in edge. It's not a very "black metal" black metal album. What they have been for this album and the last one specifically are just a kind of meditative, loose amalgamation of prog rock and american folk and post rock and shoegaze with a kind of general atmo black coating. If I come into it looking for some black metal I get a little let down because it's a very soft and melodic and warm album, but from the correct perspective they're very beautiful songwriters.

New Inertia is amazing wow.

Falls of Rauros imo are fairly outside the black metal realm. I mean even if were talking atmoblack they seem like they're just as influenced by post rock as they are something like Agalloch or Burzum.

Well said Gameofmetal. Nailed why I'm not a huge fan.

in all fairness it's a legitimate aesthetic judgment (though not so pleasing to hear), conveying something stronger than a disagreement of opinion ("i feel that the quality of album A just doesn't merit the reactions it has received" vs "i don't like album A myself but i see why other people do so much")
