@romulus I get that although I like the juxtaposition of Kevin's non-subtle songwriting with Charles'. Like Charles is there wondering about how men mark time in relationships and Kev just gets straight to the crux of how EVERYTHING'S HOPELESS and ARE YOU HAPPY

13 Months guitar layering just about qualifies as subtle but otherwise yeah lol this album is the room you are in it there is no escape it is best

think all of the above are very valid points. there's something about "happy" that's less endearing to me than say ... a "hopeless", which operates somewhat similarly lyrically. but it clearly doesn't impact my enjoyment of the album!
shouts to "per second second" which was previously the song here other than "happy" that wasn't my fave but i am now a big fan

well yeah any talk of subtely is all relative lol
happy is definitely one of the lower tier songs here and probably the most 'emo' in style. I still love it but don't know if I would if I heard it for the first time today

think one of the reasons this has aged so well for me is that when you're young it's a breakup album and when you're old it's an album about how being old is fuckin exhausting and also occasionally involves breakups
