i have the polar opposite opinion and i think all those songs you mentioned are among their best and almost all of them are personal favorites

"(doubts, old wounds, can't win, familiar patterns, scorpion hill)."
all these songs rule and are the exact opposite of boring and forgettable

Y'all should listen to the new Glass Beach album

with all the songs that i singled out, i actually love almost all of the song except for the chorus. for some reason i think the choruses on those songs are just bad. and because choruses are like central, focal points in pup songs, a bad chorus ruins the whole song for me (that said i really like the third chorus on familiar patterns, just dont like the first two).
in contrast i think the hooks on s/t are all great

am I the only one that basically likes all three of their LP's equally?

Album Rating: 3.5
No I'm with you Atari. They're all pretty much equally great. My favourite tracks (and percieved filler tracks) are spread out pretty evenly across all three records.
If I had to make a 10 track album out of the 3 LPs it'd be: Guilt Trip, Reservoir, Never Try, Cul-de-sac, DVP, Sleep In The Heat, Old Wounds, Kids, Scorpion Hill, Bare Hands.

cool top 10, mine would basically be all of TDiO minus pine point and my life is over (i still like them tho) and through in sibling rivalry and free at last.

revisiting s/t rn and i gotta agree, @dimsin, the hooks ARE somewhat better than some of the hooks in TDiO or MS, but that's about it on the superiority of their 1st album. The songs aren't as memorable, the riffs are weaker, the production is less on point and it doesn't feel as tite or structured as their other records, it's still fucking great, i sure wasn't giving it enough love.

All three albums are solid 4s.
Guilt trip reservoir DVP familiar patterns free at last see you at your funeral sibling rivalry....closure dark days sleep in the heat?

Nah man i think s/t production was their best. steve's guitar is wailing above everything else in the mix, stefan's parts are more pronounced, and it's a more cutting sound. tdio's production is my least favorite because while the guitars are mighty it just feels brittle

"the hooks ARE somewhat better than some of the hooks in TDiO or MS, but that's about it on the superiority of their 1st album"
for some reason with this band, i feel like the songs are so reliant on the hooks and they're given such a central role that if the hook is weak, the whole song comes down like a house of cards
"If I had to make a 10 track album out of the 3 LPs"
Guilt Trip
DVP
Reservoir
Kids
Yukon
Dark Days
Mabu
Sleep in the Heat
Bare Hands
Factories
bonus track:
Oceans
come on ppl Factories is like one of their top 3 songs

ya they do have you even listened to sleep in the heat you FOOL
|
| |
y'know when i first heard sleep in the heat i was like "GODDAMN THIS SONG IS ABOUT STEFAN WATCHING A PERSON HE LOVES SLOWLY DIE"
and then the video came out and it turns out it's about his fucking pet chameleon
not invalidating his love for his pet or anything but just saying, y'know, it hit so much harder when i thought it was about a human being
