My biggest issue with this is that Billie has an incredible voice but it just isn’t fit for this type of edgy music

Production on this album is fucking great.

Billy herself... eh.

Songs are typically a good bout of fun, but the production stands out way more than Billy and I feel like that's a pretty big issue.

Yeah i agree. I do think she displays some vocal talent occasionally (i dont think she's incredible though) but doesn't show much range and often just mumbles about

Yeah, why is she whispering all the time?

I feel like there's something to her, although I think there's much better to come from her. There are certain aspects of her music that remind me of Melanie Martinez.

The Melanie comparisons are even more jarring. Least with Avril theres some minor weak argument to be made about where their aesthetics are drawn from but Melanie and Billie are both completely different in overall sound and aesthetics.

Weak arguments? Come on man, 17 year old female pop artist who comes along and flops pop music on its head. Writes despondent lyrics, dresses counter-culturally, and generally follows an "edgier" sound than her musical peers, by not writing songs about the traditional pop-music subject matter that the era is drawn to.

Avril lavigne did the same shit when she broke onto the scene decades ago. I'm not saying the music sounds the same, but the person/ideology they represent within musical culture or pop culture is pretty similar... just coming from two different eras.

But that first Avril album had some genuinely good pop tunes. This doesn't.

Bad Guy is my new favorite song to listen to on headphones--the production on this is insane
